Fuzzy Feet Complete
Good Morning All! Fuzzy Feet complete. I just like how that sounds! Moonbooties..next as well as the Swell hat for Fikki and a Christmas Present and a Hat for Alex
I am a day or two behind but I am port free and do feel pretty descent at times. Not sure I am up for a weekend yet but we'll see how things go.
I finished my Mom's Fuzzy Slippers sans soles for the moment. I want her to double-check the fit and tweak for a week if needed. In the meantime I am devising my evil plan for a better handmade sole.
Last week Fikki went to the shoe store and brought very nice quality shoe leather to sew on the bottom of my friend, DL's Prairie Boots (forgot to get a pic but I am sure she will model soon) My dilemma came when I decided to sew my own because I didn’t want to wait for an order to come in to the shop.
Cutting and punching holes with the tiny end of my hole punch/grommet tool was easy…it was the thread choice that stumped me. The packs I have on order from Charlotte Yarn say they come with sock yarn to sew on. The wear factor is my concern. Just yarn seems to fragile. I have upholstery thread I could sew it on with but that seems harsh. I tried leather string but that was too bulky.
So at our always informative Guild meeting I put out the question: What do I do?
GREAT ANSWERS!
Jane P merely suggested (pun intended) sewing the yarn and the thread together to increase strength and appeal.
Kate B suggested I rub the yarn through beeswax first…great idea…only I was thinking I would use the lavender furniture wax I use to wax my loom and spinning wheel with.
Gerry T had visited the new Cheap Joe’s Art Supply that day and happened to have beeswax with her. She VERY kindly insisted I try it then and there but I didn’t actually have the yarn with me to take advantage of such a generous offer? And I saw the price tag on that package. I know she would not have minded but I was not going to spoil her package for me to practice on waste yarn! The great thing now is I have a visual of what I should be using.
And she has her first granddaughter…that’s real greatness! I am currently experience the greatness of Great-Auntness…I wished they were closer!!!
As we were packing up Meta came to me with yet another idea…wrap the soles around the foot and the sewing doesn’t matter! She said she had used a commercial sole and that’s how it sewed on.
So now I have great options: Sandy H at Charlotte Yarn has also provided a vendor on Independence Blvd that has more options in leather and suede scraps.
I can use the packs I ordered from the shop as ‘samples’ and modify the fit to suit me. I’ll post when I have something more to show on this.
Accountability Stuff: I did my walk yesterday…about a mile…in South Hill…in pieces. Hey it’s a start!
I added gratuitous pictures of Sister Three's donkey, Jessie...he is a gentle thing but at this moment he is trying to scare Princess...who is an aptly named horse because she wants all of the attention. But she is WONDERFUL for a newbie rider like me.

Yes we know the horseshoe's are upside down...but ever try to tell a man who has 'done you a favor' that it's wrong?! That's a guarantee your luck will run out!
