Hot Diggety-Dog
Although I am very late showing this I am still so excited about this so I am posting it now anyway.
My cousin Alan gave me a 16 heddle harness loom. Yes..you heard all of that right...GAVE and SIXTEEN HEDDLE HARNESS.
I took pictures before I did any prep work.
I took lots of picture so if I disturbed something I would be able to correct it.

He also gave me these shuttles and the yarn and a weaving book (not pictured) and a bobbin winder for the shuttle (not pictured)
Why don't I have pictures of the other stuff? I thought I did but when I downloaded the camera I found they were not there. Not sure what happened and Fikki has the camera with him right now. I 'll get more pictures with the winder in action.
All I know so far about the unit is it was a prototype weaver from the ARM LOOM COMPANY in Switzerland.
I asked my brother who has worked with antique knitting machines how I could safely clean it. He suggested Murphy's Oil. After a few emails back and forth...including one with a link to the Murphy's Oil site...I was able to confirm this with one of the daughters at the company.
It's not really dirty...just a little dusty..but I was afraid I would wreck havoc if I used it before loosening things up a bit.
And to think I started not to go to the family reunion this year because I had just got back from two weeks on the road!
I don't even remember how it came up that I weave a bit...Alan and I were talking about genealogy and next thing I know we're making plans for a loom delivery!
Obviously the first nice thing off this loom goes to Alan...along with hugs and dinner and my eternal gratitude.

Now you need to make a short trip to my attic.

I think you mean 16 harnesses. If you had 16 hedddles you would be weaving very thin ...ummm...strings really.

If you have questions you really should talk to Erica. She does have a degree in weaving. Well...professional crafts in fiber technically.
